Description

Itolizumab is a new medicine developed and approved in India for the treatment of psoriasis. It may also be used for the treatment of certain other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, etc.

General warnings

Infusion related reactions

Usage of this medicine may cause symptoms like fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, dyspnea, fall in blood pressure, etc. in some patients. Appropriate symptomatic treatment, dose adjustments, or discontinuation of therapy may be necessary in these cases based on the clinical condition.

Infections

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of infections; it is not recommended for use in case of active infections due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. Close monitoring of clinical condition, appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Administration

This medicine should be infused over a duration of at least 2 hours.

TB testing

Prior to the initiation of therapy with this medicine, the patient should be evaluated for any latent TB infections by TB skin test or chest x-ray to avoid any possible adverse effects or complications. It is advised to withhold the therapy with this medicine if these tests are positive.

Driving or Operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience dizziness during treatment with this medicine.
