Iron Sucrose

Description

Iron Sucrose is used for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with non-iron deficient anemia and iron overload.

Allergy

General warnings

Hypersensitivity reactions

This medicine may cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylactic reactions, shock, loss of consciousness, collapse, low blood pressure, etc. The patient should be monitored for signs and symptoms of allergic reactions during and after therapy with this medicine for about 30 minutes. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Liver impairment

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of liver function is necessary while receiving this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (a joint disorder) due to the increased risk of adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Severe Asthma

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from severe asthma due to the increased risk of adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus due to the increased risk of adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Hypotension

This medicine may lower blood pressure and hence should be used with extreme caution in patients with hypotension (low blood pressure), since it may worsen the patient's condition. Close monitoring of blood pressure levels is necessary while receiving this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in children less than 2 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

Since this medicine is usually administered by a qualified healthcare professional in the clinical/hospital setting, the likelihood of a missed dose is very low. However, it is advised to contact the doctor immediately if you miss a scheduled dose of this medicine.

Overdose
