Description

Hyoscine Butylbromide is an antispasmodic (a medicine used to relieve spasms) is used to relieve cramps (sharp pain) associated with the gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestine). It is also used to relieve cramps of the bladder in individuals having kidney stones. Hyoscine Butylbromide is also used alone or in a combination with other medicines to treat symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, etc. associated with irritable bowel syndrome (a disorder that affects the large intestine) and peptic ulcers (an open sore that occurs on the inner lining of your stomach and the upper region of your small intestine). Hyoscine Butylbromide injection is also used to reduce pain in pyelography (imaging of the urinary collecting system). This medicine also helps in diagnostic procedures like endoscopy (a procedure where organs inside your body are looked at by using an instrument called an endoscope), where spasms and pain are the major issues. Proper supervision is needed while using it in diagnostic procedures. Hyoscine Butylbromide shows common side effects like constipation, dry mouth, diarrhoea and headache. Most of the side-effect does not require medical intervention and subsides with time. However, if any of these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to it. Hyoscine Butylbromide may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking this medicine. Avoid consumption of alcohol while on Hyoscine Butylbromide therapy as it may increase the risk of dizziness. Hyoscine Butylbromide tablet can be taken on an empty stomach. Acute narrow-angle glaucoma

Narrow-angle glaucoma is a condition in which the drainage canals of the eyes gets blocked leading to a sudden rise of pressure. Hyoscine Butylbromide may increase the risk of this condition by suppressing the fluid in your eyes. Hence, it is not recommended to use in this condition.

Megacolon

Megacolon is the abnormal dilation (widening) of the colon. It may complicate problems such as Inflammatory bowel disease and Crohn's disease (swelling of the digestive tract). Hyoscine Butylbromide is not recommended for use in people being affected by megacolon due to the increased risk of colon relaxation and further major side effects.

Paralytic or obstructive ileus

Paralytic or obstructive ileus is a condition in which there is a blockage in the intestine without any physical obstruction. It may occur due to the impairment of nerves and muscles of the intestine. Hyoscine Butylbromide may increase the risk of this condition as it may worsen the obstruction.

General warnings

Anticoagulant therapy

Hyoscine Butylbromide should not be given via the intramuscular route in people being treated with anticoagulant drugs (blood thinners) due to the increased risk of intramuscular hematoma (injury to skin or tissue that causes blood to collect and pool under the skin). In these individuals, subcutaneous or intravenous routes may be preferred.

Driving or operating machines

Use of Hyoscine Butylbromide may cause symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, etc. Avoid performing any activities such as driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Prostatic enlargement

Hyoscine Butylbromide should be used with caution if you have prostatic enlargement (gland present below the urinary bladder in men gets enlarged). This medicine increases the risk of urinary retention and close monitoring of water intake and output is indicated. Consult your doctor if you experience pain in and above the genital area.

Use in children

Hyoscine Butylbromide should be used with extreme caution in children under 6 years and only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.

Missed Dose

Oral forms/Suppositories: If you missed a dose of Hyoscine Butylbromide, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose.
