Hydroxyzine

Description

Hydroxyzine is an anti-allergic medicine used in adults and children. It is used to treat the symptoms of allergic skin conditions such as rash, redness, itching, swelling, etc. It works by blocking the action of a chemical substance, called histamine, and provides relief from allergy. Hydroxyzine is also used in the treatment of anxiety. It is also used to help you feel relaxed and to induce sleep before surgery along with anaesthesia. Hydroxyzine may cause some common side effects such as sleepiness, tiredness, dryness in the mouth, headache, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms stay for a long time or if they become severe. Hydroxyzine is available as tablets, oral drops, syrup, and injection. Take the oral form with or without food as advised by your doctor. Avoid taking more or less than the prescribed dose. Take this medicine for the recommended duration as prescribed by your doctor. Hydroxyzine injection is administered by a qualified healthcare professional in a hospital setting. Hydroxyzine is not recommended for use if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, or other medical conditions like asthma (a condition that causes breathing difficulty), depression (a condition that includes low mood and loss of interest), or glaucoma (an eye condition that may cause vision problems). Hydroxyzine may interact with other medicines and cause undesired effects. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicine including herbs and supplements. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
