Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to gatifloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, difluprednate, or any other inactive ingredients present in the formulation.

Active viral diseases

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with active viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, and varicella due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Mycobacterial or fungal infection

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a mycobacterial or fungal infection of the eyes and surrounding structures due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine. If the medicine is used, monitor the infant closely for any adverse effects.
General warnings

Contamination

Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface since this may lead to contamination by bacteria. Patients are advised to take all hygienic precautions to ensure that the medicine is not contaminated.

Contact lens

This medicine is not recommended for use if you are wearing soft contact lenses in your eyes. The lens should be removed prior to administration of the eye drops and can be reinserted 10 to 15 minutes post administration.

Increase in Intraocular pressure (IOP)

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of cataracts, glaucoma, or increased intraocular pressure due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. This risk is especially high if the medicine is used for more than 10 days. Close monitoring of intraocular pressure may be necessary in some cases. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Drug-resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing benefits and may even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Driving or Operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause blurred vision or other vision changes in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Other medicines

This combination medicine may interact with many other medicines and may cause severe adverse effects. Hence, it is advised that you inform the doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs and supplements before beginning treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

How it works
Difluprednate works by reducing the formation of certain substances in the body that are responsible for causing swelling and pain. Gatifloxacin works by inhibiting an enzyme required for the bacterial DNA to replicate. This blocks the multiplication and growth and results in the eventual death of the bacteria.
