Description

Fluorometholone is used for the treatment of eye swelling, pain, and redness which may be caused by surgery, infection, allergies, or other conditions. This medicine should be used with caution in children and only under the supervision of your doctor.

Allergy

Active viral diseases

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from active viral diseases of the eyes including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, and varicella due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Mycobacterial or fungal infection

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from a mycobacterial or fungal infection of the eyes and surrounding structures due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition. If the medicine is used, monitor the infant closely for any adverse effects.
General warnings

Use in pediatrics

This medicine comes in two formulations, fluorometholone and fluorometholone acetate. Formulations containing fluorometholone are not recommended for use in patients less than 2 years of age while formulations containing fluorometholone acetate are not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age. The medicine should be used in children only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.

Increased intraocular pressure (IOP)

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of cataracts, glaucoma, or increased intraocular pressure due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. This risk is especially higher if the medicine is used for more than 10 days. Close monitoring of intraocular pressure may be necessary in some cases. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Slow or delayed healing

This medicine may slow or delay healing and increase the risk of a bleb formation. This risk is especially higher if the medicine is used for a prolonged period of time. Appropriate examination through lamp biomicroscopy and fluorescein staining may be necessary in some cases to ensure appropriate healing post surgery. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Contact lens

Patients are advised to remove contact lenses prior to the administration of this medicine. The lenses may be reinserted 10 to 15 minutes post administration.

Driving or operating machines

This medicine may cause blurred vision or other vision changes in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.
