Description
Femipristal Capsule is a medication that is used for intermittent treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of uterine fibroids (abnormal growth in the uterus) and also as an emergency contraceptive. In adult women with fibroids who have not reached menopause (cessation of menstruation), lower doses (5mg/10mg/15mg) are preferred for treatment. As an emergency contraceptive, Femipristal Capsule is used in high doses (30mg). Femipristal Capsule reduces the size of fibroids by blocking the effects of progesterone. Progesterone is a sex hormone involved in the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and the formation of eggs (primary female gamete). As a contraceptive, it prevents the release of the egg during ovulation. Femipristal Capsule may cause certain side effects like nausea, missed periods, weakness, headache, dizziness, etc. Talk to your doctor if these symptoms persist for a long time. Do not take Femipristal Capsule if you have ever been allergic to it. This medicine should not be given to children under the age of 18 years. Femipristal Capsule should be taken only if your doctor has prescribed it. The dose of the medicine and duration of treatment is determined by your health condition and other underlying diseases. Femipristal Capsule should not be used if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding. Do not take Femipristal Capsule if you have serious health conditions like liver problems or cancer (cervical, ovarian uterine).

Allergy

Femipristal Capsule is not effective in treating or preventing diseases that are transmitted via sexual contact.

Use in children

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Femipristal Capsule, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.

Liver Disease

Femipristal Capsule has to be used with caution if you have liver disease. Please consult your doctor before taking the medicine. You will also be advised to undergo liver function tests (LFT) while you are on treatment with Femipristal Capsule.
Food interactions
Avoid taking grapefruit juice while taking Femipristal Capsule as grapefruit juice interferes with the action of the medicine and can cause serious side effects.

Uterine Fibroids: Take Femipristal Capsule as advised by your doctor. Ensure that the treatment course is completed. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor. Emergency contraception: This medicine should always be taken after consulting with your doctor. It has to be taken within 5 days (120 hours) of unprotected sexual intercourse. In case you vomit within 3 hours after taking this medicine, contact your doctor immediately for further instructions. Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Femipristal Capsule.

How it works
The lower doses (5mg/10mg/15mg) of Femipristal Capsule work by blocking the effects of progesterone (a female hormone that plays a major role in developing fibroids) and thereby reduces the size of fibroids.
