Description
Esocard Injection is a short-acting antihypertensive drug used to treat certain heart rhythm disorders such as supraventricular tachycardia, increased heart rate, and blood pressure occurring during anesthesia and/or surgery. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. This medicine should not be used in patients with conditions such as heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, etc.

Heart block greater than first degree

This medicine is not recommended for patients with severe heart block due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Heart failure

This medicine is not recommended for patients with heart failure due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Asthma/COPD

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. All the potential benefits and risks should be discussed with the doctor before receiving this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using this medicine. Your doctor may advise you to discontinue the drug or to discontinue breastfeeding based on your clinical condition
General warnings

Hypotension

This medicine should be used with caution as it may increase the risk of hypotension. Close monitoring of blood pressure is required. Adequate dose adjustments and suitable alternatives are considered when there is a drastic decrease in blood pressure.

Hyperkalemia

This medicine may cause elevated serum potassium levels in body and development of hyperkalemia especially in patients with risk factors (eg, renal impairment). Close monitoring of serum potassium levels during the therapy is required.

Extravasation

Check for needle or catheter placement before infusion. Avoid extravasation because it leads to cell damage. Avoid infusion to smaller veins and use an alternate infusion in case of a local infusion site reaction to avoid severe reactions like necrosis, blistering, and thrombophlebitis at the injection site.

Abrupt withdrawal

Abrupt withdrawal of this medicine should be avoided, but gradual tapering should be done to avoid acute tachycardia, hypertension, and/or ischemia. Severe exacerbation of angina, ventricular arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction (MI) have been reported following abrupt withdrawal of beta-blocker therapy.

Peripheral Vascular Disease

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with peripheral vascular disease due to the increased risk of adverse effects. An alternative treatment option should be considered in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Use in Children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Since this medicine is administered before and during a surgical procedure by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of missing a dose is very low.

Overdose

Diabetes

This medicine should be administered with caution in patients with diabetes due to the increased risk of low blood glucose levels. It may mask the hypoglycemic symptoms. You may require a dose adjustment and more frequent clinical monitoring of blood glucose levels while receiving this medicine. An alternative treatment option should be considered in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Glaucoma

This medicine should be administered with caution in a patient suffering from Glaucoma due to the increased risk of adverse effects. You may require a dose adjustment of current Glaucoma medicine and more frequent clinical monitoring while receiving this medicine. Hyperthyroidism

This medicine should be used with caution in patients having high thyroid hormone levels due to the increased risk of adverse effects.
