Eprosartan

Description

Eprosartan is used alone or in combination with other medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure. Patients are advised to maintain a strict exercise and diet regimen along with this medicine to get the best possible effect. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age.

Allergy

Aliskiren

Coadministration of aliskiren and this medicine is not recommended due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects. This risk is especially higher in the elderly population and in patients suffering from diabetes and kidney diseases.

Bilateral renal artery stenosis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Second and third trimester of pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use in second and third trimesters of pregnancy due to the increased risk of fetal morbidity and mortality.

Pregnancy

General warnings

Hypotension

Symptomatic hypotension may occur in patients with volume depletion or patients who are treated with high-dose diuretics during treatment with this medicine. Hence, it is advised to correct volume depletion and/or adjust the doses of patient's medicines before initiating treatment with this medicine.

Kidney impairment

This medicine should be used with caution in patients kidney diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of kidney function is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Hyperkalemia

This medicine may increase the potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia) in some patients. This may cause serious side effects such as fatal cardiac rhythm irregularities, kidney function impairment, muscle paralysis, etc. It is advised to avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (ACE inhibitors and potassium supplements) during treatment with this medicine. Close monitoring of blood potassium levels, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Driving or Operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Liver impairment

This medicine should be used with caution in patients liver diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of liver function is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Angioedema

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a known history of angioedema due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Report any symptoms such as swelling of the face or lips, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, etc. to the doctor immediately. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Congestive heart failure

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from congestive heart failure due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of heart function, blood pressure, and kidney function is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Hypotension

This medicine should be used with caution in patients who are sodium depleted and/or volume-depleted since it may increase the risk of hypotension. The volume depleted and/or sodium depleted state should be corrected before starting the therapy or the treatment should be started at a lower dose. Vital signs should be monitored closely during therapy with this medicine.

Renal impairment

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment due to the increased risk of adverse effects. You may require a dose adjustment and more frequent monitoring of renal function tests to safely use this medicine. An alternative treatment option should be considered in some cases based on clinical condition.
Food interactions
It is recommended to avoid a high potassium diet during treatment with this medicine due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects. Your doctor/dietitian will suggest appropriate changes in your diet to avoid high intake of potassium.
