Doripenem

Description

Doripenem is an antibiotic used to treat many bacterial infections of the stomach, urinary tract, lungs, etc. This medicine works by killing the bacteria that causes infection by interfering with its cell wall formation. Doripenem shows side effects like skin rashes, headache, nausea, diarrhoea and pain at the site of injection. Most of these side effects resolve with time as your body adapts to the medicine. However, if any of these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor immediately. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. Doripenem is given in the hospital setting by a drip or into the veins for 1 hour under the supervision of a healthcare professional in the clinical setting. It is infused slowly for 3 to 4 hours in patients with kidney disease or ventilator-associated pneumonia (patients with lung infection kept on a ventilator). Your doctor will decide the Doripenem dose to be administered based on the severity and location of the bacterial infection. Therefore, there are fewer chances of missing doses or overdose. Ensure to complete the course of this medicine even if there is an improvement. Doripenem has to be used with caution in certain cases. Before taking this injection, inform your doctor if you have any problems of heart, liver and kidney or if you are under active medications. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding. Your doctor may suggest tests to monitor your liver and kidney function during the treatment with this medicine. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age.
