Description
Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup is a combination medicine consists of codeine and chlorpheniramine. It is used for the treatment of a dry cough and to provide relief from symptoms of allergies like a runny nose, congestion, cold, throat irritation, watery eyes, and redness of the nose. Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup works by reduces the activity of the cough centre in the brain and by stopping the effects of histamine that causes allergic symptoms. Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup show some side effects such as drowsiness, constipation, sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or bother you. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine as it can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid using this syrup if you are previously allergic to it. Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup can be taken with or without food at the dose and duration that has been prescribed. Do not stop using it without consulting your doctor as abrupt discontinuation of this medicine may cause your symptoms to recur. If you still feel unwell after completing the treatment course, consult your doctor. Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup is not recommended to use if you have ulcers, liver or kidney diseases as it can worsen your condition. It is recommended to consult your doctor before using Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended to use this medicine in children under 12 years of age. Allergy

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) are used in the treatment of depression. Use of Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup is not recommended to use within 14 days after taking MAO inhibitors like selegiline or rasagiline. Using these medicines simultaneously may increase the risk of undesirable effects like drowsiness and blurred vision.

Gastrointestinal obstruction

Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup is not recommended to use if you have a gastrointestinal blockage, such as paralytic ileus. Paralytic ileus is the obstruction in your intestine due to paralysis of the intestinal muscles. In such cases, the medication may stay in the stomach for a long time (delayed absorption) which can lead to serious side effects.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia

Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup is not recommended for use in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) since it may cause increased difficulty in passing urine.

Intracranial pressure

Codistar (10/4 mg) Syrup is not recommended to be used if have a head injury or intracranial lesions as it can increase the intracranial pressure (pressure inside the skull and on the brain) and worsen your condition.

Epilepsy

Liver/Kidney diseases
