Description
Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet is a combination of Ciprofloxacin and Tinidazole. It is used to treat a variety of infections affecting various parts of your body like the lungs, genitals and urinary tract. This infection is usually caused by different microorganisms like bacteria and protozoa. It works by stopping the growth of microorganisms causing the infection. Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet can cause side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, change in taste, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a long time or get worsen. Avoid activities that require mental focus like driving and operating machines, as this medicine may cause dizziness. Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet is usually taken one hour before or two hours after meals or as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medicine around the same time every day for the ease of remembering. Complete the whole treatment to feel better. Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet is not prescribed if you are allergic to it or have any skeletal condition like tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or myasthenia gravis (severe weakness of the muscles). This medicine can make birth control pills less effective. You may be asked to take different way of birth control methods to prevent unintended pregnancy. Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet is not recommended to be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. Your dose can be adjusted in such cases. Report all your current medications as they can interact with Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet and may cause side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor first before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Tendinitis or tendon rupture

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not take Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet should be avoided if you have myasthenia gravis since it may worsen your condition.

Pregnancy

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of adverse effects on your developing baby. Take this medicine only upon your doctor's recommendation.

Breast-feeding

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet passes into breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended to be taken while breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for understanding all risks and benefits associated with this medicine before taking it.
General warnings

Antibiotic resistance

Complete the entire course of treatment with Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet, even if your condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.

Blood cell count

If you have a low blood cell count, prolong therapy with Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet may further decrease your cell count. An alternative medicine may be prescribed by your physician.

Neurotoxicity

Neurotoxicity occurs when exposure to certain toxic substances (neurotoxicants) alters the normal activity of your nervous system and show effects like convulsions, peripheral neuropathy (weakness, numbness and pain from nerve damage, usually in the hands and feet), headache, and dizziness. Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet rarely cause neurotoxicity.

Impaired liver function

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have liver problems as this medicine is broken down in the liver. An Impaired liver will not use the medicine properly, leading to increased levels of unused medicine in your blood. Frequent monitoring of liver functions and/or dose adjustments may be necessary based on your condition.

Driving or Operating machines

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet may cause sleepiness or dizziness in some people. Therefore, avoid driving vehicles and operating heavy machines after taking this medicine.

Use in Children

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet. And if a dose is skipped, do not add it up to the next dose.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor in case of an overdose of Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet.

Colitis

QT Prolongation

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet may cause a heart rhythm problem called prolonged QT intervals (an electrical heartbeat disturbance) in some people who are taking heart medications. It may result in fast, rapid, and irregular heartbeats.

Kidney Disease

Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have a kidney problem as a damaged kidney may lead to accumulation of unused medicine in your body, increasing the risk of side effects. Your doctor may suggest another suitable medicine or adjust the dose based on your condition.

How it works
Ciprogyl 500/300 Tablet is composed of Ciprofloxacin and Tinidazole. Ciprofloxacin stops the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This helps to kill or prevent the growth of bacteria in the body. Tinidazole works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and protozoa by interfering with its DNA synthesis.
