Description
Ceflox-D Eye/Ear Drops is a combination medicine which may be used for the treatment of eye infections such as conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, etc., and postoperative eye conditions (swelling, pain, redness, etc.) which are responsive to steroids and where bacterial infections or risks of bacterial infections exist. It may also be used to treat certain infections of the ear canal caused by susceptible bacteria.

Allergy

General warnings

Contact lenses

Your doctor may ask you to stop the usage of contact lenses for up to a few days prior to the surgery and for up to a few days to a few months post-surgery depending on the type of eye surgery performed. If you are able to use contact lenses post-surgery, they should be removed prior to the administration of the eye drops. You are advised to wait for at least 10 to 15 minutes post administration of the eye drops before re-inserting the lenses.

Contamination

Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface since this may lead to contamination by bacteria. Patients are advised to take all hygienic precautions to ensure that the medicine is not contaminated.

Drug-resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing benefits and may even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Driving or operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause blurred vision in some patients. If you experience blurred vision during treatment with this medicine, it is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery until your vision is clear.

Missed Dose

Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Ocular Toxicities

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of cataracts, glaucoma, or increased intraocular pressure due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Ocular herpes infection

This medicine is not recommended for use if the patient is suffering from an eye infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered based on the clinical condition of the patient.

How it works
Ciprofloxacin works by inhibiting an enzyme required for the bacterial DNA to replicate. This blocks the multiplication and growth and results in the eventual death of the bacteria. Betamethasone works by decreasing the release of certain substances that cause swelling. It also works by suppressing or partially preventing the effect of the immune system.
