Description
Brintellix 10 Tablet is an antidepressant medicine that is used in the treatment of depression. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical substance in your brain, and helps in improving the symptoms. Brintellix 10 Tablet may cause common side effects such as dizziness, skin rash/itching all over your body, diarrhoea/constipation, nausea, vomiting, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Brintellix 10 Tablet should be taken exactly as advised by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body. Brintellix 10 Tablet should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have liver/kidney problems, or a history of seizures (fits), glaucoma (the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can lead to eventual loss of vision) before taking this medicine. Brintellix 10 Tablet may interact with other medicines. Close evaluation with respect to your current medicines is necessary to avoid any undesired side effects. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or are planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before taking this medication.

Allergy

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors are a class of medicines used to treat depression. Brintellix 10 Tablet is not recommended if you have taken this medicine within the last 14 days due to the increased risk of serious side effects.

Pregnancy

Brintellix 10 Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Consult your doctor about the potential benefits and risks before deciding to take this medicine.

Breast-feeding

Brintellix 10 Tablet passes into breastmilk and hence is not recommended. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
General warnings

Suicidal thoughts

Brintellix 10 Tablet should be used with caution due to the increased risk of suicidal thoughts. Close monitoring for any change in behavior or mood is recommended. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on your clinical condition.

Seizures (fits)

Seizure is a condition in which there is disturbed nerve cell activity in the brain resulting in abnormal behaviour and loss of consciousness. Brintellix 10 Tablet may increase your risk of seizures if you have a history of this condition and should be used with caution.

Abnormal bleeding

Brintellix 10 Tablet should be used with caution if you are undergoing treatment with oral anticoagulants and pain killers as there is an increased risk of excessive bleeding. Report any unusual bleeding or bruising to your doctor immediately. Frequent clinical monitoring, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on your clinical condition.

Kidney/Liver impairment

Brintellix 10 Tablet should be used with caution if you have pre-existing kidney/liver problems due to the increased risk of side effects. Your kidney/liver functions will be closely monitored.

Driving or operating machinery

Brintellix 10 Tablet may increase your risk of dizziness. If you experience any symptoms that affect your mental alertness, avoid driving vehicles or operating machines.

Use in children

Brintellix 10 Tablet is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age due to a lack of safety and efficacy data.

Elderly

Brintellix 10 Tablet should be used with caution if you are elderly (65 years and above) due to the increased risk of side effects such as hyponatraemia (low sodium levels in the blood), nausea, constipation.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Brintellix 10 Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

Do not take excess dose than prescribed by your doctor. Contact your doctor in case of an overdose with Brintellix 10 Tablet.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition of optic nerve (nerve connecting the eye to the brain) damage due to high intraocular pressure (fluid pressure inside your eye). Brintellix 10 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of glaucoma due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Periodic monitoring of your intraocular pressure is recommended.

Hyponatraemia

Brintellix 10 Tablet may increase your risk of hyponatraemia (low sodium levels in the blood). This risk is especially higher if you have low blood sodium levels, have kidney problems or are taking diuretics (a class of medicines that causes loss of water and salts through urine). Close monitoring of your blood pressure and sodium levels is recommended.

Mania

Mania/manic episode is a mood disorder with extremely elevated mood and hyperactivity. Brintellix 10 Tablet may increase your risk of mania and hence caution is required.
