Description
Biograin-Plus Tablet is a medicine with the combination of domperidone, flunarizine and paracetamol. It is used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting and pain during migraines. It works by interfering with pain signal transmission to the brain and blocking certain substances that trigger nausea or vomiting during migraine headaches. It is not suitable for children below 12 years of age. Biograin-Plus Tablet may cause some common side effects like diarrhoea, increased appetite, indigestion, weight gain, dryness in the mouth and abnormal menstruation in women. Contact your doctor if these side effects do not subside or if they become severe. It may also cause drowsiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Biograin-Plus Tablet is taken without food in a dose prescribed by your doctor. The dose and duration of treatment will be decided by the doctor based on your clinical condition. Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney diseases, before taking this medicine. This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so consult your doctor before using it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Biograin-Plus Tablet can further increase the drowsiness. So avoid consuming alcohol after taking this. Migraine attacks should be managed by the use of this medicine along with avoiding identified migraine-causing triggers like red wine, caffeine withdrawal and stress.

Kidney diseases

Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have kidney disease associated with excessive use of painkillers.

Active and/or severe liver disease

Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have severe liver disease due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.

Gastro-intestinal bleeding

Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have any gastrointestinal haemorrhage as it may worsen your condition.

Prolactin-releasing pituitary tumour (Prolactinoma)

Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have a history of prolactinoma (a benign noncancerous tumour of the pituitary gland that produces a hormone called prolactin), as it may worsen your condition.

Heart diseases

Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have any active heart diseases such as congestive heart failure because this medicine may worsen your condition.

Depression

Glaucoma

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with caution if you have glaucoma (excessive fluid pressure in your eye). Report any instance of disturbance in vision, pain or dryness of eyes to the doctor immediately.

Use in children

Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age because no data is available on the safety and efficacy of this medicine.

Elderly

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with caution in elderly people. The risk of adverse effects is significantly high and hence treatment should begin with the lowest possible dose.

Chronic Malnutrition

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have any malnourishment due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on your clinical conditions.

Electrolyte imbalance

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you are with acute or long-term electrolyte imbalance due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Regular monitoring of electrolyte levels is recommended. Your doctor may adjust the dose if required.

Prolactin imbalance

Biograin-Plus Tablet may cause an imbalance in the levels of prolactin, resulting in disturbances in the menstrual cycle in women. Prolonged use of this medicine can also result in a breast-like growth in men. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Lactose intolerance

Biograin-Plus Tablet may contain lactose and may be unsuitable for patients suffering from lactose intolerance, galactosemia, or glucose/galactose malabsorption. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Missed Dose

Do not skip any dose of Biograin-Plus Tablet. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is delayed for more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose of Biograin-Plus Tablet. The overdose of it may cause severe drowsiness, weakness, agitation, confusion, fast heartbeat. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose, seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor immediately.

Urinary tract obstruction

Use of Biograin-Plus Tablet is not recommended for use if you have a partial/total obstruction of the urinary tract. It may cause kidney failure. Inform your doctor if you have such a condition before taking this medicine.

Porphyria

Avoid taking Biograin-Plus Tablet if you have a genetic disorder of the blood and skin (Porphyria). The risk of adverse effects is significantly high and hence your doctor may suggest a suitable alternative.

Liver disease

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have liver diseases due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects and worsening your condition. Based on your clinical condition, close monitoring of liver function tests and appropriate dose adjustments may be required.

Kidney diseases

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with caution if you have kidney diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of the kidney function tests and appropriate dose adjustments may be required based on your clinical condition.

Intestinal disorders

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have serious intestinal problems such as internal bleeding, an obstruction or perforation of the stomach and intestine, etc. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine if required based on your clinical condition.

Alcoholism

Biograin-Plus Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you are consuming alcohol for a long time, due to the increased risk of serious liver injuries. Close monitoring of liver function is recommended. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately.

5-HIAA Urine Test

5-HIAA is a urine test that measures the amount of serotonin in urine. Biograin-Plus Tablet may cause a false-positive result for this test. Inform your doctor about the use of this medicine if you are advised to undergo this test.

How it works
Domperidone is an antiemetic that blocks the action of dopamine (a chemical messenger) in your brain which causes nausea and vomiting. Flunarizine is a calcium channel blocker that improves blood circulation by dilating blood vessels in your brain, thus it prevents migraine headaches. Paracetamol acts on the brain centres responsible for regulating the body temperature to reduce elevated temperatures. It also inhibits the synthesis and release of certain chemical substances responsible for causing fever, pain and swelling.
