Description
Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops is a medicine that consists of Betamethasone and neomycin. It is used to treat redness, swelling, itching and irritation of eyes or ears that are caused by bacterial infections. It works by killing the bacteria that cause infection and gives fast relief from the symptoms. Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops can cause side effects like headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, burning, irritation, itching and redness at the site of application. This may be temporary and subside with time. However, consult your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or worsen. This medicine is for the eyes and ears only, avoid contact with your mouth or nose. Rinse immediately with plenty of water in case of accidental contact. Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops may cause temporary blurred vision and impair your ability to drive. Hence, avoid driving vehicles or operating heavy machines after using this medicine. Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops should be used only on doctors prescription. Use it as directed by your doctor. Wash your hands properly before using this medicine. Do not stop using the medicine without consulting your doctor as abrupt stopping may cause infection to reappear. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to it. Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops may not be suitable for all people. Inform your doctor if you have other active infections and if you are using other medicines for your pre-existing conditions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops. If your condition does not improve after one week please inform your doctor.

Allergy

Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops is not recommended for use if you are affected with shingles as it may cause scarring, vision loss and other long term problems.

Eardrum perforation

Eardrum perforation is damage or a hole in the tissue that connects the ear canal to the middle ear. A perforated eardrum may be caused by loud noises, a foreign item in your ear (insects or earbuds), head injury or pressure fluctuations (such as those experienced during air travel). Sharp ear pain, discharge, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), or hearing loss are the symptoms. Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops is not recommended for use in such cases as it can make the middle ear more vulnerable to infections and may lead to hearing loss.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can damage the optic nerve and lead to eventual loss of vision. Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops is not recommended for use in such a condition as it contains betamethasone which may further increase the pressure in your eye. This can worsen your condition and can lead to blindness.

Contact lenses

Usage of the contact lenses is not recommended if any signs and symptoms of bacterial eye infection such as eye redness, irritation, drainage, etc., are present. Do not use contact lenses while you are on treatment with Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops. Wearing contact lenses after instilling this medicine in your eyes may cause irritation and redness.

Driving or operating machines

You may experience impaired vision or sleepiness after using Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops. If you experience any of these symptoms while using this medication, avoid performing activities that need high mental concentration or attention, such as driving vehicles or operating machines.

Viral eye infections

Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops is not recommended for use in the treatment of viral infections including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (eye infection due to herpes simplex virus), and other conditions of the cornea (clear protective outer layer of your eye) and conjunctiva (tissue that covers your eyeballs) as it is not effective against the viral infections.

Missed Dose

Use the missed dose of Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not administer double doses to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

If you have administered an overdose of Betnesol-N Eye/Ear Drops, seek emergency medical treatment. An overdose of this medication may cause eye irritation and swelling.

Betamethasone works by preventing the production of prostaglandins, the natural substances that cause redness, itching and swelling in the body.
