General warnings

Drug-resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Sodium

This medicine contains sodium in it and therefore it should be used with caution in patients with conditions that may require sodium restriction, such as congestive heart failure, hypertension (high blood pressure), and fluid retention.

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Avoid the use of this medicine if the patient experiences severe diarrhea after receiving therapy with this medicine. Antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora in the large intestine, which promotes the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile. This will result in severe diarrhea. Appropriate corrective measures and replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Missed Dose

Oral forms: If a dose of this medicine is missed, take the dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one. Injection/ Infusion: Since this medicine is administered in the hospital or clinical setting by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of missing a dose is very low.

Seizure disorders

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of seizure disorder or a family history of seizures due to the increased risk of recurrent seizures.
