Description
Benitowa beta 25 Tablet is a medicine that consists of Benidipine and Metoprolol. It is used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain or chest discomfort). Benitowa beta 25 Tablet helps to lower your blood pressure, thereby reducing the chances of future heart attack and stroke. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet can cause some common side effects like headache, swelling (anywhere on your body), flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), slow heart rate, tiredness, nausea, stomach pain, constipation and a feeling of coldness in the fingers and toes. Consult your doctor if these side effects become severe. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet can make you feel dizzy when you stand up suddenly, so it is advised that you get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines as this medicine can cause drowsiness and can affect your concentration. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet can be taken with or without food. Take this medicine at the same time every day to maintain regular blood pressure levels. Avoid potassium-rich foods like bananas while taking this medicine. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor as abruptly stopping the use of this medicine may lead to more serious conditions like a stroke or a heart attack. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet may not be suitable for all people. Inform your doctor if you have asthma or any other breathing conditions, kidney or liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding. Allergy

This medicine can affect the electrical impulses that regulate the heart functioning resulting in excessively lower blood pressure.

Second or third degree heart block

There are electrical signals that control the heartbeat and cause your heart muscle to contract and pump blood properly. Heart block occurs when these signals are slowed down. Heart blocks can be first, second, or third-degree. First-degree heart block is the least severe, second-degree heart block is severe and can often progress to third-degree heart block, the most severe form. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet should be avoided for use if you have a heart block in your heart greater than first degree due to the weakening of heart contractions and slowing of heart rate.

Driving or operating machines

Use in children

Benitowa beta 25 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age as the safety and efficacy data is not available.

Use in elderly

Lung diseases

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose of Benitowa beta 25 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at a scheduled time. Do not double your dose to compensate for a missed one.

Liver disease

Coronary artery disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Benitowa beta 25 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a respiratory condition such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This medicine can cause shortness of breath and also worsen other symptoms of such respiratory conditions. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine or suggest some alternative based on your condition.

Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition in which your blood sugar levels are high. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet can mask the symptoms of low blood sugar in people with diabetes. Your doctor may monitor your blood sugar levels if you are a diabetic and taking this medicine.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve due to increased intraocular pressure (high pressure inside the eyeball). This can lead to blindness. Benitowa beta 25 Tablet helps to lower this intra-ocular pressure. However, it should be used with caution if you have glaucoma as it may severely lower intraocular pressure leading to serious side effects. Your doctor will adjust the dose for its safe use.

Hyperlipidaemia

Benitowa beta 25 Tablet should be used with caution if you have hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol levels) due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Your doctor may closely monitor your cholesterol levels, advise an appropriate dose of this medicine, or replace it with a suitable alternative based on your clinical condition.

How it works
Benidipine works by relaxing the heart muscles and blood vessels. Metoprolol blocks certain substances (catecholamines) which increases blood pressure. Together these medicines relax the blood vessels and reduce the heart rate, promote a smooth flowing of the blood. This causes lowering of your blood pressure to normal levels.
