Description
Baxativ 5 mg Suppository is a stool softener. It is used in the treatment of constipation (difficulty in passing stools). It is also used before certain medical procedures or surgery to empty the bowels. This medicine works by increasing the activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement. Baxativ 5 mg Suppository may cause some side effects like mild stomach cramps/discomfort, diarrhoea, rectal irritation/burning/itching, etc. Consult your doctor if you experience rectal bleeding during treatment with this medicine. Baxativ 5 mg Suppository is used to relieve constipation in the short term. It should be administered exactly as advised by your doctor. It should not be used continuously for more than five days. If you are still constipated after five days of using Baxativ 5 mg Suppository, consult your doctor. Baxativ 5 mg Suppository should be avoided if you are allergic to it. The 10mg dose is not recommended in children below 12 years, and the 5mg dose is not recommended in children below four years of age. Use of Baxativ 5 mg Suppository in children should be done only under medical supervision.

Allergy

Inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel disease is a condition that causes inflammation (swelling and redness) of the digestive tract. Baxativ 5 mg Suppository is not recommended in such conditions as it may lead to colonic perforation (tear in the wall of the large intestine).

Rectal bleeding

Rectal bleeding is blood coming from the anus while passing stool. This usually occurs due to the presence of anal or rectal fissures (tear or cut in the thin, moist tissue that lines the anus and rectum). Baxativ 5 mg Suppository may cause irritation and burning sensation when used in such conditions. Hence, it should not be used if you have rectal bleeding.

Intestinal obstruction disorders

An intestinal obstruction disorder is a condition where the small or large intestine is blocked, thus preventing bowel movements. In such conditions, the underlying cause should be treated to correct constipation. Baxativ 5 mg Suppository is not recommended for use in intestinal obstruction disorder as it may worsen your condition.

Pregnancy

Baxativ 5 mg Suppository is acceptable for use during pregnancy upon your doctor's recommendation.

Breast-feeding

Baxativ 5 mg Suppository is safe for use during breastfeeding. It does not pass into breastmilk and is very unlikely to affect your baby.
