Description
Atonide Gel is a topical medicine that consists of Desonide. It is used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (a skin condition that causes red and itchy skin). Atonide Gel works by blocking the action of certain substances that cause swelling, redness, and itching. Atonide Gel may cause some side effects such as stinging, burning sensation, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness at the site of application. These side effects are usually mild and may subside by themselves. However, consult your doctor if they persist or worsen. Avoid using this medicine if you are allergic to it. Atonide Gel is meant for external use only. Use this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, and open wounds. Wash thoroughly with water in case of accidental contact. Do not apply more than the prescribed quantity of this medicine. Atonide Gel may not be suitable for everyone. Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma (an eye condition with abnormally high pressure inside the eye that may eventually lead to blindness) or active viral, bacterial, or fungal skin infections before starting the treatment with this medicine. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Infections

Atonide Gel is not recommended for use if you have bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections. This medicine is not effective in treating such conditions. Hence, inform your doctor if you have an active skin infection or develop an infection during treatment with this medicine.

Hyperadrenocorticism

Hyperadrenocorticism is a condition caused due to excess cortisol hormone levels in your body. Atonide Gel should be used with caution as it may cause or aggravate hyperadrenocorticism if this medicine gets absorbed into your body. It may depend on the concentration of the medication, the size of the application area, treatment duration, and use of dressings. Hence, avoid the use of this medicine for a prolonged period.

Ocular Toxicities

Rarely, prolonged use of Atonide Gel may increase the intraocular pressure (fluid pressure inside the eye) and cause glaucoma (a condition where the pressure within the eyeballs is abnormally high that can damage the optic nerve and lead to loss of vision). Hence, this medicine should be used with caution if you have a history of glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure.

Apply a thin layer of Atonide Gel to the affected area as instructed by your doctor. Follow all the usage instructions mentioned on the label or the package insert.
