Description

Terlipressin is used for the treatment of bleeding esophageal varices (dilated blood vessels of the esophagus) and type 1 hepatorenal syndrome (progressive kidney failure in people with severe liver damage). This medicine is not recommended for use in children.

What is it prescribed for?

Bleeding Esophageal Varices

This medicine is used to treat the bleeding of dilated blood vessels of the esophagus which develops when the blood flow to the liver is reduced due to a blood clot within the liver or scar tissue.

Type 1 Hepatorenal Syndrome

This medicine is used in the treatment of type 1 hepatorenal syndrome (progressive kidney failure in people with severe liver damage) characterized by rapid kidney failure and an increase in the levels of creatinine.
