Description
Telsar LN-5 Tablet is a combination of Cilnidipine and Telmisartan. It is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. This medicine relaxes the blood vessels and controls high blood pressure.
Telsar LN-5 Tablet shows side effects like swelling in your ankles or feet, headache, tiredness, nausea, and stomach upset. These side effects usually subside with time. However, consult your doctor for further assistance if they persist or worsen. Avoid driving vehicles or operating heavy machines while taking this medication as it can cause dizziness. Avoid consuming grapefruit juice with this medicine as it can cause serious side effects.
Telsar LN-5 Tablet can be taken with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Take the medicine at the same time every day for ease of remembering. Do not discontinue the medicine without consulting your doctor as it may worsen the condition. You are advised to make some lifestyle changes such as indulging in physical activities and a low-salt diet intake.
Telsar LN-5 Tablet is not recommended for use if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor about all your ongoing medicines as they can interact with each other and cause serious side effects. Inform your doctor if you have pre-existing liver, or kidney problems or any other health conditions. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking this medicine. It is not recommended for children below 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established.

What is it prescribed for?
Hypertension
Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure. It occurs due to the narrowing of the blood vessels. If left untreated, it can lead to various complications like stroke (a condition that occurs due to interrupted blood flow to the brain) and heart attack. Telsar LN-5 Tablet is used in the treatment of hypertension.

Allergy
Avoid taking Telsar LN-5 Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, swelling and/or itching (especially in the face, lips, throat, etc.), dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Aliskiren
Avoid taking Telsar LN-5 Tablet and Aliskiren (a medicine used for reducing high blood pressure) together as it may lead to kidney damage, low blood pressure, and hyperkalaemia (high potassium levels in your blood). It may also cause other side effects such as irregular heartbeat, muscle paralysis, heart attack, etc. This risk is particularly higher if you have diabetes or kidney problems or in the elderly.
Severe liver impairment
Telsar LN-5 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have severe liver problems. Impaired liver function may lead to the accumulation of this medicine in the body and increase the risk of side effects. It may also cause further liver damage.

General warnings
Aortic Stenosis
Telsar LN-5 Tablet should be used with caution if you have aortic stenosis (narrowing of the aortic valve that regulates blood flow from the chamber of the heart to the body) due to the increased risk of hypotension (low blood pressure). Hence, regularly monitor your blood pressure during treatment with this medicine. Your doctor may adjust the dose of the medicine as per requirements.
Use in Children
Telsar LN-5 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age as the safety and efficacy data are not clinically established.
Renal artery stenosis
Renal artery stenosis is the narrowing or blockage of blood vessels that carry blood to your kidneys. Telsar LN-5 Tablet should be used with caution if you have renal artery stenosis as it may cause uncontrolled high blood pressure, altered kidney function, water retention, and swelling of the body (majorly in the hands and feet). Your kidney function and clinical condition will be closely monitored by your doctor while you are on treatment with this medicine.
Drug Withdrawal
Avoid abrupt discontinuation of Telsar LN-5 Tablet as it may worsen conditions such as angina (chest pain). Your doctor may gradually reduce the dose based on your condition to avoid undesirable effects.
Hyperkalemia
Hyperkalaemia is an increase in potassium levels in your blood. Telsar LN-5 Tablet may lead to hyperkalaemia and cause side effects such as irregular heartbeats. Hence avoid potassium-rich foods (such as potatoes, bananas, etc.) and other medicines or supplements that may increase potassium levels during treatment with this medicine.
Driving vehicles or operating machines
Telsar LN-5 Tablet may cause symptoms such as drowsiness and/or dizziness in some cases. Hence, avoid performing activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating machines during treatment with this medicine.
Missed Dose
Do not miss the dose of Telsar LN-5 Tablet. In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Telsar LN-5 Tablet. Seek emergency medical treatment in case of an overdose.

Congestive heart failure
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition in which the heart is unable to pump blood efficiently. Telsar LN-5 Tablet should be used with caution if you have conditions such as heart failure. It may lead to oliguria (low urine output) and kidney failure. Your doctor may closely monitor the functioning of your heart and kidney while you are taking this medicine.
Kidney Disease
Telsar LN-5 Tablet is excreted via the kidney and may get accumulated in your body if your kidneys are not functioning properly. This can increase the risk of severe side effects. Hence, this medicine should be used with caution if you have kidney problems.
Hypotension
Telsar LN-5 Tablet should be used with caution as it may cause hypotension (low blood pressure). The risk is especially higher if you have low levels of sodium in your body or if you have low fluid volumes due to excessive vomiting, diarrhoea, kidney failure, etc. Hence, regularly monitor your blood pressure while you are taking this medicine.
Food interactions
Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended while taking this medicine due to the increased risk of adverse effects. Symptoms like dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet should be reported to the doctor on priority.
Lab interactions
Urinary vanillylmandelic acid
Report the use of this medicine if you have been asked to undergo this test for the presence of adrenal gland tumor. Use of this medicine is likely to give the false value that might be higher than normal.
Take Telsar LN-5 Tablet as advised by your doctor. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet.
Take this medicine at the same time every day for the ease of remembering. Avoid the discontinuation of the medicine without consulting your doctor.

Telsar LN-5 Tablet is a combination of Cilnidipine and Telmisartan. Telmisartan works by blocking a receptor and preventing blood vessel constriction. Cilnidipine acts by blocking the influx of calcium (responsible for the contraction of blood vessels) and causes relaxation, thereby promoting the smooth flow of blood. Their combination is thus effective in reducing blood pressure.
