Description

Telma Act 80/5/12.5 Tablet is a combination of medicine which may be used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also help to reduce the risk of adverse effects on the heart (complications) associated with high blood pressure levels. Patients are advised to maintain a strict exercise and diet regimen along with this medicine to get the best possible effect.

Allergy

Anuria

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with anuria (a condition where the kidney is unable to produce urine) due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Severe renal impairment

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with severe renal impairment due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Severe liver impairment

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver impairment due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Aliskiren

Coadministration of aliskiren and this combination medicine is not recommended due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects. This risk is especially higher in the elderly population and in patients with diabetes and kidney diseases.

General warnings

Hyperkalemia

This medicine may increase potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia). This may cause serious side effects such as fatal cardiac rhythm irregularities. It is advised to avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (ACE inhibitors and potassium supplements) during treatment with this medicine. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Use in Children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Hypotension

Symptomatic hypotension may occur in patients with volume depletion or patients who are treated with high-dose diuretics. It is advised to correct this condition before initiating treatment with this combination medicine.

Myocardial infarction or angina

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with coronary artery diseases, especially while starting the treatment or increasing the dose, since it may worsen the symptoms of myocardial infarction or angina.

Liver Disease

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patient's suffering from liver diseases due to an increase in the risk of serious adverse effects. Close monitoring of liver function is advised while taking this medicine. Report any symptoms of confusion or jaundice to the doctor on priority. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Volume and electrolyte disturbances

This medicine may alter the blood volume and electrolyte levels in some patients. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance. This risk is especially higher in patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases. Close monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is recommended for such patients. How it works

Chlorthalidone works by increasing the excretion of water and sodium from the kidneys. This helps in bringing down the blood pressure as well as swelling. Amlodipine and Telmisartan both relaxes the blood vessels, thus improving blood flow and reducing blood pressure levels. Their combination is thus effective in treating hypertension.
