Mannitol (Tablets India) 20 % Infusion is an osmotic diuretic used to remove excess water and toxins from the body in patients with kidney disease. It is also used in the treatment of cerebral edema and intraocular pressure. Frequent monitoring of electrolytes levels is necessary during treatment with this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?

Cerebral edema (Fluid accumulation in cerebral cavity)

This medicine is used to reduce cerebral edema (brain swelling) by decreasing the intracranial pressure.

Oliguria (Low urine output)

Mannitol (Tablets India) 20 % Infusion is used to treat oliguria by increasing the urine output.

Intraocular pressure (Fluid pressure inside the eye)

This medicine is used to decrease the fluid pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure).

General warnings

Volume and electrolyte depletion

Mannitol (Tablets India) 20 % Infusion may alter the blood volume levels and electrolyte levels. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance. Close monitoring of blood pressure and electrolytes levels is necessary while taking this medicine. Report any symptoms such as weakness, lethargy, muscle pain, drowsiness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, etc. to the doctor immediately.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to Mannitol (Tablets India) 20 % Infusion.

Crystallization of solutions

This medicine may crystallize when exposed to low temperatures. If crystals are visible, they can be dissolved by warming the solution in a hot water bath or a warming cabinet, followed by gentle agitation (shaking of the vial). Once crystals dissolve, allow the solution to cool to room temperature, reinspect for crystals, and use if crystals are not visible. The medicine should not be used if crystals are present. Please note that the method of warming may differ based on the manufacturer's recommendations.
