What is it prescribed for?
Atrial Fibrillation
This medicine is used to maintain normal heartbeats in patients with a recent episode of atrial fibrillation, an irregular and rapid heart rate that causes poor blood flow.
Atrial Flutter
This medicine is used to maintain normal heartbeats in patients with a recent episode of atrial flutter, abnormally rapid rhythm of the heart.

Electrolyte imbalance
Electrolyte imbalance can alter the therapeutic effectiveness of antiarrhythmic agents. The increase in potassium levels may increase the toxic effects of antiarrhythmic medicines. The baseline of these electrolytes should be obtained before initiation of the therapy and any changes in the values should be reported to the doctor.
Use in children
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.
Proarrhythmia
This medicine can induce or worsen ventricular arrhythmias in some patients especially those who are suffering from cardiac dysfunction, bradycardia, hypomagnesemia, and hypokalemia. Hence, treatment with this medicine should be reserved for patients with life-threatening arrhythmias.
