Description

Heptral 400 mg Tablet is a natural substance present in the cells of the body. It plays an important role in cell growth and repair. It also helps in the maintenance of hormones that affect mood and behaviour. Heptral 400 mg Tablet may cause side effects such as dizziness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea/constipation, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Heptral 400 mg Tablet should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body. Heptral 400 mg Tablet should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have a history of mental health problems or vitamin (B12 or B9) deficiencies before beginning treatment with this medicine. Close evaluation with respect to your current medicines is necessary to avoid any undesired side effects. Heptral 400 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or are planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before taking this medication.

What is it prescribed for?

Nutritional Supplementation

Heptral 400 mg Tablet is used in combination with other medicines for the treatment of depression (a mental health problem characterized by feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities), osteoarthritis (a type of arthritis that causes pain on movement due to wearing of the protective covering at the ends of the bones), and cholestasis (a liver problem that occurs when the flow of bile from the liver is reduced or blocked).

Allergy

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are a class of medicines used to treat depression. Heptral 400 mg Tablet is not recommended if you are on treatment with MAOIs or have taken them in the last 14 days due to the increased risk of severe side effects.

General warnings

Bipolar disorder

Heptral 400 mg Tablet is not recommended if you have a history of bipolar disorder (a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings) due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.

Driving or Operating machines

Heptral 400 mg Tablet may cause dizziness. If you experience any symptoms that may affect your mental alertness, do not drive vehicles or operate machines.

Other medicines

Heptral 400 mg Tablet may interact with other medicines and may cause undesired side effects. Inform your doctor about your current medicines including any herbs or supplements before taking this medicine.

Use in children

Heptral 400 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to a lack of safety and efficacy studies.

Vitamin deficiency

Vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiencies may decrease the absorption and effectiveness of Heptral 400 mg Tablet. In case of vitamin deficiencies, appropriate supplementation may be required along with this medicine based on your clinical condition.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Heptral 400 mg Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor if you suspect an overdose with Heptral 400 mg Tablet.
