Description
Clavam 150 Injection is a combination medicine used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin interferes with the growth and division process of the bacterial cell wall while clavulanic acid ensures extended anti-bacterial activity. This combination may be used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs and airways, middle ear, sinuses, skin, and the urinary tract in pediatric patients.

What is it prescribed for?
Ear Infection (Otitis Media)
This medicine may be used to treat infections of the middle ear caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Nose Infection (Sinusitis)
This medicine may be used in the treatment of infections of the nose and nasal chamber caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Throat Infection (Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis)
This medicine may be used in the treatment of infections of the throat and airways leading to lungs, namely Tonsillitis and Pharyngitis caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
This medicine may be used in the treatment of infections of the airways leading to the lungs. The infections can be Pneumonia, acute bronchitis, or others caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Skin Infection
This medicine may be used in the treatment of infections of the skin and skin structures caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Urinary Tract Infection
This medicine may be used in the treatment of infections of the bladder (Cystitis) and kidneys (Pyelonephritis) caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.
Bone and joint infections
This medicine may be used for the treatment of infections of the bones and joints (Osteomyelitis) caused by susceptible strains of bacteria.

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to amoxycillin, clavulanic acid, any other medicines belonging to the penicillins or cephalosporins groups, or any other inactive ingredients present in the formulation.

General warnings
Allergic Reaction
This medicine is likely to cause moderate-to-severe allergic reactions and the likelihood is very high in patients who are known to have an antibiotic allergy. Report the occurrence of any such reaction to the doctor on priority. Appropriate corrective measures and replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.
Diarrhea
Antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora of the large intestine, which may promote the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile and you may experience severe diarrhea as a result. Report any such incidence to the doctor on priority. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
Drug-resistance
Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug-resistant.
Liver disease
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of liver function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.
Form and method of administration
This medicine is generally administered either by slow intravenous injection over a period of 3-4 minutes or by intravenous infusion over a period of 30-40 minutes. It is not suitable for intramuscular administration. The patient should be shifted to oral forms as soon as possible.
