Description

Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), arrhythmia (irregular heart rhythms), pheochromocytoma (tumour of a small gland near your kidneys), tremors (uncontrolled trembling or shaking movements in one or more parts of your body), and hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (a heart condition caused due to abnormal thickening of heart muscle). Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is also used to prevent angina (chest pain that radiates to arms, neck and back), migraine headaches, and to improve survival after a heart attack. It works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing heart rate to improve blood flow and decrease blood pressure. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR may cause some side effects like tiredness, unusual weakness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects are temporary and subside with time. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is recommended to be taken on an empty stomach. The dose and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor. You should not stop taking Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR without consulting your doctor as it may worsen your condition. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR can interact with other medical conditions and medications. Inform your doctor if you have liver, heart and kidney problems, diabetes, or if you are under any medication. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding.

What is it prescribed for?

Hypertension

Hypertension or high blood pressure is a condition in which the force exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels is high. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents for the treatment of high blood pressure which may be caused by genetic or environmental factors. It slows down your heart rate and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood.

Angina pectoris

Angina pectoris is a heart condition characterized by pain in the chest radiating to the arms, neck and back. It is caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR widens the blood vessels in your body and improves the blood flow, thus decrease the chest pain frequency.

Migraine prevention

Migraine is a headache characterized by a throbbing pain that is usually accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light and sound. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used for the prevention of migraine headaches. However, the efficacy of this medicine in relieving migraine headaches is unknown.

Hypertrophic subaortic stenosis

Hypertrophic subaortic stenosis is a heart condition in which the heart muscle thickens abnormally and reduces the heart's ability to pump blood. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used to improve symptoms of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis such as chest pain or abnormal heart rhythms.

Tremors

Tremors are uncontrolled trembling or shaking movements in one or more parts of your body. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used to prevent uncontrolled body movements.

Heart attack

Heart attack is a condition that occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is blocked. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used to treat or prevent heart attack, it lowers your blood pressure and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood.

Phaeochromocytoma

Its symptoms are high blood pressure, sweating, rapid heartbeat and headache. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is used for the treatment of symptoms caused due to pheochromocytoma.

Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland (a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck) overproduces thyroid hormones. A dose adjustment of Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR may be required if you have a hyperactive thyroid gland because the clearance of Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is increased from your body in such conditions. Inform your doctor if you have hyperthyroidism.

Sports

It is advised to not indulge in certain sports while you are on treatment with Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR. Archery, racing, shooting, and other high-risk sports should be avoided. Sportspersons should refer to the list of banned medicines published by the World Anti-Doping Agency while participating in specific sports events.

Driving or operating machinery

Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR may occasionally make you feel dizzy or tired. It is recommended that you do not perform activities such as driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Asthma

Asthma is a condition in which there is swelling and narrowing of airways with overproduction of mucous/phlegm. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is not recommended for use if you have bronchial asthma or other breathing problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (an inflammatory lung condition that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs) because it may increase the risk of airway constriction which will further worsen your condition.

Diabetes

Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR may mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) such as blood pressure changes, high pulse rate, etc. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye condition characterized by an increase in the pressure inside your eyes which can lead to ocular (eye) nerve damage. If you are taking medicines for the treatment of glaucoma you might need a dose adjustment of Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR. Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR when used in glaucoma may further decrease your eye pressure and lead to other complications.

Liver disease

Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR is broken down in your liver and excreted through urine. If you have problems with your liver and kidney function, this medicine can further worsen it. Hence avoid taking Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR if you have such conditions.

Kidney disease

Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR should be used with caution if you have a history of kidney problems. This medicine is excreted through urine. Using this medicine while you have kidney problems will lead to its accumulation. This can cause permanent damage to your kidneys and worsen your condition. Inform your doctor about your kidney problems.

Food interactions

Taking Cardimol 40 MG Tablet SR with multivitamins should be avoided as it may decrease the effects of the medicine. A time gap of at least 2 hours should be maintained between the administration of multivitamins with minerals and this medicine to avoid their interaction.
