Description
Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Metoprolol. It is used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing your blood vessels and lowering your blood pressure. Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may cause common side effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, diarrhoea/constipation, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or if they become severe. Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet should be taken exactly as advised by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body. Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have diabetes (high blood sugar levels), liver, kidney problems, or a history of glaucoma (a condition where the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can lead to eventual loss of vision), before taking this medicine. Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may interact with other medicines. Close evaluation with respect to your current medicines is necessary to avoid any undesired side effects. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or are planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before taking this medication.

Allergy

Peripheral Arterial Disease

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended for you if you have blood circulation disorders like peripheral arterial disease (a condition where the blood vessels are narrow, leading to decreased blood flow to your limbs) as it may worsen your condition.

Pregnancy

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may cause severe side effects in your foetus and hence is not recommended during pregnancy unless necessary. If you are pregnant consult your doctor.

Breast-feeding

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet passes into breastmilk and may cause side effects in your infant. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
General warnings

Abrupt withdrawal

Abrupt withdrawal of Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may affect your blood pressure control and may worsen your symptoms. Do not discontinue the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Surgery

Anaesthetic medicines given during surgery may increase your risk of hypotension (low blood pressure). This risk is increased in the presence of Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet. Hence treatment with this medicine should be informed to your doctor before scheduling a surgery. Your doctor may consider withdrawal of Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet 48 hours before administering anaesthesia.

Other medicines

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may interact with other medicines and may cause undesired side effects. Inform your doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs or supplements before taking this medicine.

Driving and operating machines

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness, visual disturbances. Do not drive vehicles or operate machines if you experience any symptoms that may affect your mental alertness.

Missed Dose

Lung disease

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you have pre-existing lung problems such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a condition with swollen air sacs, resulting in breathing difficulties) as it may worsen your breathing problems. If required, your doctor may prescribe the lowest dose possible to avoid worsening your condition.

Diabetes

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have diabetes as this medicine may cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels). It is recommended to periodically monitor your blood sugar levels.

Liver disease

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have pre-existing liver problems due to the increased risk of serious side effects. Your liver function will be closely monitored and your dose may be adjusted accordingly.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can damage the optic nerve and lead to eventual loss of vision. If you have glaucoma, Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may affect your intraocular pressure and should be used with caution.

Pheochromocytoma

Pheochromocytoma is a condition with a non-cancerous tumour in your adrenal glands (glands located above your kidneys), which results in high blood pressure. Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet when given alone in this condition may further increase your blood pressure. Inform your doctor before starting treatment with this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe additional anti-hypertensive medicines to help control your high blood pressure.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic (long-term) skin condition that causes a skin rash with red, itchy, scaly patches. Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have this condition as it may worsen your skin rash.

Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular condition that causes weakness in your skeletal muscles (the muscles your body uses for movement). Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have this condition as it may worsen your symptoms and cause severe muscle weakness.

Hyperlipidaemia

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition with high blood levels of lipids (fats/cholesterol). Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet may alter your blood cholesterol levels. If you have pre-existing hyperlipidaemia, your blood cholesterol levels will be closely monitored and your dose may be adjusted accordingly.

Cardiogenic shock

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you suffer from cardiogenic shock (a life-threatening condition where your heart suddenly stops pumping enough oxygen-rich blood to your body) as it may worsen your condition.

Hyperthyroidism

Use Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet with caution if you have hyperthyroidism (high thyroid levels) as it may mask some of your symptoms. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Your doctor may monitor your thyroid levels during the treatment with this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on your clinical condition.
Food interactions
Do not take Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet with grapefruit juice due to the increased risk of severe side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet, etc.
Multivitamins and mineral supplements may reduce the effectiveness of Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet when taken together. It is recommended to take these two medications with a gap of at least two hours.

Amlovas Xm (5/25 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Metoprolol. Amlodipine works by relaxing the heart muscles and the blood vessels. This helps in lowering blood pressure.
