Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is a mood-stabilizing medicine that is used for the treatment of mental disorders such as mania (very intense and irritable moods and hyperactivity) and bipolar disorder (unusual shifts in mood ranging from emotional highs to emotional lows). This medicine works by altering the release of chemicals in the brain. Alkalith 450 MG Tablet can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tremors, dry mouth, increased thirst, dizziness, drowsiness, etc. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen. Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to it. Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is usually taken with food. Take it as prescribed by your doctor. For ease of remembering, take it at the same time every day. Do not skip any dose or discontinue the treatment without consulting your doctor, as your condition may become worse. Avoid taking more than the recommended dose due to the increased risk of toxicity. Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is not recommended for use if you have heart or kidney conditions or severe dehydration. Allergy

Severe heart disease

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is not recommended for use if you have severe heart conditions. This medicine can affect the electrical functioning of the heart such as T-wave flattening (abnormal electrical signaling in the heart that may occur due to reduced blood supply to the heart or low blood potassium levels), dysfunction of the sinus node (dysfunction of the heart's natural pacemaker), and QT prolongation (the heart muscle takes longer than normal to recharge between beats). This can worsen your condition if the heart is already severely compromised.

Severe dehydration

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is not recommended for use if you have severe dehydration. In such a condition, there is a decrease in excretion of this medicine from the body, which may result in toxicity. The symptoms may include tremor, vision changes, trouble walking, uncontrollable movements, an altered level of consciousness, etc.

Kidney condition

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is not recommended for use if you have kidney conditions due to the increased risk of toxicity.

Fluid and electrolyte balance

Drink plenty of water and continue taking normal salt in the diet to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance.

Driving or operating machines

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet may cause drowsiness or dizziness in some cases. It is advised that you do not perform activities that require high mental alertness, like driving vehicles or operating machines, if you experience such symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

LIthium toxicity

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet should be used with extreme caution due to the increased risk of lithium toxicity (an increased blood levels of lithium resulting in undesired effects). Never take more than the recommended dose of this medicine.

Missed Dose

Avoid missing a scheduled dose of Alkalith 450 MG Tablet. In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Alkalith 450 MG Tablet. Seek immediate medical attention in case of an overdose for further guidance.

Dementia

Heart Disease

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet is generally not recommended for use if you have heart conditions due to the increased risk of lithium toxicity (an increased blood levels of lithium resulting in undesired effects). Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you have heart conditions.

Hypothyroidism

Alkalith 450 MG Tablet may cause hypothyroidism (when the thyroid gland fails to produce enough hormones) in some cases. Hence this medicine should be used with caution if you have preexisting hypothyroidism.

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a rare life-threatening condition characterised by fever, an abnormally high body temperature, muscle rigidity, altered mental status, irregular pulse or blood pressure, etc. Alkalith 450 MG Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have or have had neuroleptic malignant syndrome, as it can trigger or aggravate the condition.

Seizure disorders

A seizure is a condition in which there is uncontrolled body movements due to an electrical disturbance in the brain. Alkalith 450 MG Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of seizures or conditions that lower the seizure threshold (likelihood of having a seizure).
