Description
Alernyl-T Syrup is an prescription medicine used in relieving productive cough. It helps in relieving symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathing difficulties and cough caused by bronchospasm (contraction of airways), bronchial asthma (airway path of the lungs to swell and narrow), chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi), etc. It dissolves thick mucus formed in the air passages and makes it easier to cough out mucus made in your chest (phlegm). Use Alernyl-T Syrup only if advised by your physician. You may experience certain side effects like headache, diarrhoea, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting, etc. Do not use Alernyl-T Syrup if previously allergic to it. Complete the entire treatment course for the best results even if symptoms subside. Maintain caution in heart, kidney or liver impairment patients while using this medicine. Take Alernyl-T Syrup with or without food. Use this medicine with the doctor recommendation only. This medicine is not safe for use in pregnant women due to the fetal side effects. Hence tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using it. It is not recommended to use this medicine in children below 2 years of age is due to a lack of safety data.

Allergy

General warnings

Cough suppressants

Do not consume Alernyl-T Syrup if you are on any other cough suppressants since they have opposite effects. Inform your physician before use.

Driving or Operating machinery

Alernyl-T Syrup may cause dizziness in some patients. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.

Gastric ulceration

Alernyl-T Syrup is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of gastric ulceration or any other gastrointestinal disorders due to the increased risk of worsening the patient's condition.

Use in children

It is not recommended to use Alernyl-T Syrup in children below 2 years of age, as the safety and efficacy studies are not established for this age group.

Liver and/or kidney impairment

Caution is advised while using Alernyl-T Syrup in patients with liver/kidney disease due to an increase in the risk of adverse effects in these patients.

Glaucoma

Patients with pre-existing glaucoma should maintain caution while consuming Alernyl-T Syrup due to worsening of the patient's condition.

There may be a slight rise in the blood sugar levels while taking Alernyl-T Syrup. Hence, caution should be exercised if the patient is diabetic and regular monitoring of sugar levels is needed.

Seizure disorders

Alernyl-T Syrup may cause worsening effects like confusion and hallucinations. Hence caution should be maintained and alternative treatment can opt.

Electrolyte imbalance

Alernyl-T Syrup may decrease blood potassium levels (hypokalemia) in some patients with imbalanced potassium levels or electrolytes. Hence, always maintain caution while administration orally.

How it works
Guaifenesin works by reducing the thickness of mucus in the air passages; this makes it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. Terbutaline works by relaxing and opening the blocked air passages leading to the lungs. Bromhexine works by thinning the mucus in the airway and promoting mucus clearance.
