Description
Alcip-TZ Tablet is a combination of Ciprofloxacin and Tinidazole. It is used to treat a variety of infections affecting various parts of your body like the lungs, genitals and urinary tract. This infection is usually caused by different microorganisms like bacteria and protozoa. It works by stopping the growth of microorganisms causing the infection. Alcip-TZ Tablet can cause side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, change in taste, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these side effects are persistent or getting worse. Avoid activities that require mental focus like driving and operating machines, as this medicine may cause dizziness. Alcip-TZ Tablet is usually taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals or as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medicine around the same time every day for the ease of remembering. Complete the whole treatment to feel better. Alcip-TZ Tablet is not prescribed if you are allergic to it or have any skeletal condition like tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or myasthenia gravis (severe weakness of the muscles). This medicine can make birth control pills less effective. You may be asked to take a different way of birth control methods to prevent unintended pregnancy. Alcip-TZ Tablet is not recommended to be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. Your dose can be adjusted in such cases. Report all your current medications as they can interact with Alcip-TZ Tablet and may cause side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor first before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Alcip-TZ Tablet is not recommended for use if you are allergic to it. Taking this medicine in such cases could lead to redness, swelling (anywhere in your body), hives (itchy, painful eruptions that sting) and breathing difficulty etc.

Tendinitis or tendon rupture

Alcip-TZ Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not take Alcip-TZ Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Alcip-TZ Tablet should be avoided if you have myasthenia gravis since it may worsen your condition.

Pregnancy

Alcip-TZ Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of adverse effects on your developing baby. Take this medicine only upon your doctor's recommendation.

Breast-feeding

Alcip-TZ Tablet passes into breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended to be taken while breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for understanding all risks and benefits associated with this medicine before taking it.
General warnings

Antibiotic resistance

Complete the entire course of treatment with Alcip-TZ Tablet, even if your condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.

Blood cell count

If you have a low blood cell count, prolong therapy with Alcip-TZ Tablet may further decrease your cell count. An alternative medicine may be prescribed by your physician.

Neurotoxicity

Alcip-TZ Tablet rarely cause neurotoxicity. Neurotoxicity occurs when exposure to certain toxic substances (neurotoxicants) alters the normal activity of your nervous system and show effects like convulsions, peripheral neuropathy (weakness, numbness and pain from nerve damage, usually in the hands and feet), headache, and dizziness.

Impaired liver function

Alcip-TZ Tablet should be taken with caution if you have liver problems as this medicine is broken down in the liver. An Impaired liver will not use the medicine properly, leading to increased levels of unused medicine in your blood. Frequent monitoring of liver functions and/or dose adjustments may be necessary based on your condition.

Driving or Operating machinery

Alcip-TZ Tablet may cause sleepiness or dizziness in some people. Therefore, avoid driving vehicles and operating heavy machines after taking this medicine.

Use in Children

Alcip-TZ Tablet is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Alcip-TZ Tablet. And if a dose is skipped, do not add it up to the next dose.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor in case of an overdose of Alcip-TZ Tablet.

Colitis

Alcip-TZ Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have gastrointestinal (stomach and intestines) problems, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon), as it may worsen your condition.

QT Prolongation

Alcip-TZ Tablet may cause a heart rhythm problem called prolonged QT intervals (an electrical heartbeat disturbance) in some people who are taking heart medications. It may result in fast, rapid, and irregular heartbeats.

Kidney Disease

Alcip-TZ Tablet should be taken with caution if you have a kidney problem as a damaged kidney may lead to accumulation of unused medicine in your body, increasing the risk of side effects. Your doctor may suggest another suitable medicine or adjust the dose based on your condition.
Food interactions
Alcip-TZ Tablet will not show the desired effects if consumed with dairy products. A gap of at least two hours should be maintained between this tablet and dairy products.

How it works
Alcip-TZ Tablet is composed of Ciprofloxacin and Tinidazole. Ciprofloxacin stops the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This helps to kill or prevent the growth of bacteria in the body. Tinidazole works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and protozoa by interfering with its DNA synthesis.
