Description
Actifed DM Cough Syrup is a combination medicine which is used to relieve dry and irritating cough associated with respiratory tract disorders. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known allergy to triprolidine, dextromethorphan, or any other inactive ingredients present along with the formulation.

Respiratory depression

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with or at risk of developing respiratory depression, in the absence of resuscitative equipment, due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Sedatives or tranquilizers

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients undergoing treatment with sedatives or tranquilizers due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)

Use of this medicine is not recommended if the patient has taken MAO inhibitors like selegiline or rasagiline within the last 14 days. Their combination may increase the risk of severe adverse effects like drowsiness and blurred vision.

General warnings

Emphysema

CNS depression

Driving or operating heavy machinery

Use of this medicine may cause blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Use in Children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 2 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established. However, your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits significantly outweigh the risks. In such a case, the patient should be monitored closely for any adverse effects.

Missed Dose

Take/Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Causes sleepiness

How it works
Triprolidine works by blocking certain natural substances (histamines) responsible for causing an allergic reaction. Dextromethorphan blocks the signals from the brain that trigger cough reflex and thus it helps in suppressing the cough. Hence, this combination is better effective in treating cough.
