Abec-L Tablet

Manufactured byEMCURE PHARMACEUTICALS LTD
ContainsAbacavir (600 mg) + Lamivudine (300 mg)
Description
Abec-L Tablet is a combination of Abacavir and Lamivudine. It is an antiviral medicine used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (a condition that occurs when the virus attacks the immune system and interferes with your body's ability to fight infections or diseases). Abec-L Tablet will not cure HIV infection, but it will delay the progression of a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and other HIV-related conditions. This medicine works by preventing the virus from multiplying. Abec-L Tablet shows some side effects like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, confusion, dizziness, trouble sleeping, etc. Consult your doctor if they bother you for a longer time or worsen. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. Abec-L Tablet may be taken with food or without food. Take it in the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor. Avoid taking more than the recommended dose. Take it every day at the same time to maintain a consistent level of this medicine in your blood. Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor, as it may worsen your condition. Abec-L Tablet may not be suitable for everyone. It is not recommended for use in children weighing less than 25 kg. Inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems or any other health conditions. Also, inform your doctor about all your ongoing medications to avoid undesired effects. Abec-L Tablet is unsafe for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding. If you have an HIV infection, it is not recommended to breastfeed, as the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may transfer to the baby through breastmilk.

General warnings

Immune reconstitution syndrome

Changes in your immune system can occur when you start taking Abec-L Tablet. Your immune system may get stronger and begin to fight infections that have been hidden in your body for a long time. It may cause an exaggerated response making the symptoms of infection worse. Inform your doctor if you develop any new symptoms after starting treatment with Abec-L Tablet.

Lactic acidosis

Abec-L Tablet should be used with caution due to the increased risk of lactic acidosis (lactic acid buildup in the bloodstream). Consult your doctor immediately if you experience muscle pain, an unusual fruity-smelling breath, extreme weakness, fatigue, breathing difficulty, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, fast or abnormal heartbeat, etc.

Fat redistribution

Abec-L Tablet should be used with caution as it may cause fat gain or fat loss in the body. It may result in central obesity, buffalo hump (excess fat behind the neck), peripheral wasting (difficulty in moving an arm or leg or making any movement), facial wasting (fat loss in the cheeks and temples), breast enlargement, and cushingoid appearance (extra fat build up on the sides of the face and weight gain). Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Abec-L Tablet should be used with caution if you have heart problems as this medicine may increase the risk of a heart attack.

Osteonecrosis

Abec-L Tablet should be used with caution as it may rarely cause osteonecrosis (the death of bone cells due to a lack of blood supply). Consult your doctor if you experience joint aches and pain, joint stiffness, or difficulty in movement

Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis refers to the swelling of the pancreas, a gland that produces chemical substances which help in digestion and regulation of blood sugar. Abec-L Tablet should be used with caution as it may cause pancreatitis. The risk is especially higher if you have a history of pancreatitis.
