1. What is chickenpox?
A condition more common in children, which is caused due to varicella zoster virus and characterized by the presence of red itchy blisters all over the body. Reinfection is very rare. It is a self-limiting infection and settles within a week even without a physician's help.
2. How do I know if I am infected with chickenpox?
You may be infected if you develop a red itchy rash on your skin (anywhere on the body) along with fever, headache and loss of appetite.
3. What causes chickenpox and what are different stages it goes through?
Chickenpox is caused by varicella zoster virus which spreads through coughing, sneezing, saliva and also fluid from blisters when contacted. The three stages include –development of red/pink bumps which turn into fluid filled leaky blisters which eventually turn crusty and scab over before beginning to heal.

Generally, symptoms appear 1 to 3 weeks after exposure to chickenpox virus.
