Dr. Umashankar Ramachandran

Dr Umashankar has performed approximately 10,000 eye procedures during his 19+ years of ophthalmology practice to date.Dr. Umashankar completed his graduation and post-graduation from Madras Medical College, one of the most reputed medical institutes in India. He has also passed the Diplomate of the National Board of Examination (DNB), India, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) from Glasgow, UK.Dr. Umashankar completed his Fellowship training in anterior segment, oculoplasty, and paediatric ophthalmology at Sankara Nethralaya, which is one of the largest tertiary eye care centres in India. He continued to work as a consultant in Trauma, Oculoplasty, and Cataract Service at Sankara Nethralaya for four years.Dr Umashankar undertook several clinical attachments in hospitals in the UK, such as Leicester Royal Infirmary and Burnley General Hospital, before joining as Medical Director at Bhagwan Mahaveer Eye Hospital in Chennai, India. There, he was instrumental in setting up the hospital and running it for three years, as well as being an expert cataract surgeon. He has worked as a Senior Specialist Ophthalmologist and later as a Consultant at Welcare Centre and Al Bashayer Centre in Oman. From there, he joined Vasan Eye Care India and worked there for three years before taking over as Medical Director at Vasan Eye Care Dubai.
