Dr. Mays Abdulghafoor

Dr. Mays Mudhafar Abdulghafoor is a Specialist in Paediatrics at Medcare Medical Centre. She completed her MBBS from Ras Al Khaimah Health and Sciences University, UAE and MSc in Haematology from the University of Westminster, UK. She has also completed a certification in Basic Aviation Medicine from King’s College London, UK and Advanced training in Neonatal Intensive Care from the University of Calgary, Canada. She has completed Advanced Life Support Certifications including PALS, ACLS, BLS and NRP. She is accredited by the Arab Board and ACGME-I.Having trained and practised across the UAE and Canada, Dr. Abdulghafoor brings a global perspective and evidence-based approach to paediatric healthcare. She commenced her career as a Paediatric Resident at Mafraq Hospital and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, UAE and then continued working there full-time. She then did a Residency at Alberta Health Services in Calgary, Canada. Being actively involved in medical research, mentorship and community health initiatives, she takes on leadership roles in medical outreach missions in affiliation with non-profit organisations. So, she followed her passion for volunteering at the Centre for Newcomers and participated in the mobile COVID-19 vaccination vans initiative of the City of Calgary in association with the Alberta International Medical Graduate Association, Canada. Subsequently, she returned to the UAE to join the Al Jalila Children's Speciality Hospital as a Paediatrician and then worked at the Emirates Hospital LLC, in a similar capacity, garnering rich experience.Dr. Abdulghafoor’s clinical expertise covers general paediatrics, emergency medicine, and outpatient care. She has successfully managed a wide range of paediatric conditions, from common childhood acute illnesses to complex conditions and emergencies. She has played a critical role in treating severe respiratory conditions, paediatric emergencies, infectious diseases, and chronic paediatric conditions. She treats all chronic childhood and acute paediatric conditions, including constipation, abdominal pain, emergency care, child growth, development, and nutrition concerns. She performs ‘well-child care clinic’, administers immunisation, and does newborn care and counselling for new mothers. She also ensures neurological and complex chronic condition surveillance.
