Dr. Marija Lukavac

​Dr. Marija Lukavac is a highly experienced neonatologist with over 28 years in the field, currently practicing at Medcare Women & Children Hospital in Dubai. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1993 and a Master of Science (MS) in 1998. Dr. Lukavac is Serbian Board Certified in Pediatrics (2000) and Neonatology (2008). In 2021, she completed a Master’s Degree in Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality from Johns Hopkins University, USA. ​Throughout her career, Dr. Lukavac has held notable positions, including Consultant Neonatologist and Head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Al Seef Hospital in Kuwait from 2008 to 2015. She also served as a Consultant/Specialist in Pediatrics and Neonatology at the Institute for Neonatology in Belgrade, Serbia, between 2000 and 2008. Her expertise encompasses the treatment of preterm and sick term newborns, neonatal ventilation (both invasive and non-invasive), neuroprotection and cooling with Cerebral Function Monitoring (CFM) and EEG, brain ultrasound, neonatal enteral and parenteral nutrition, post and presurgical care of neonatal patients, minimally invasive interventions, coverage of high-risk deliveries, and parental prenatal consultations. ​Dr. Lukavac is multilingual, fluent in Arabic, English, and Serbian, which enables her to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population. She is committed to continuous improvement in healthcare quality and patient safety, applying these principles diligently in her daily practice.
