He received the Diploma of Human Medicine from Aleppo University Faculty of Medicine with honors and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center (UKMC). He was awarded the Outstanding Resident Performance of the year 1997 and the Best Physician of the Year 1999-2000 at Whitesburg Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation (MCHC). He eventually moved to The National Institutes of Health-NIH /National Cancer Center-NCI in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2002 and completed fellowship and clinical research in Hematology/Oncology. He became the Chief of Fellows and was awarded several honors during his fellowship, including the ASCO Foundation Merit Award in 2007.
