Thumb arthritis problem
This is for my mother (age 44). She has been diagnosed with thumb arthritis. After consulting, she has started using thumb splint. I wanted to know: 1. Can it be healed permanently without any surgery? 2. What are the possible solutions? 3. Approximately how much time does it take to heal? Can it come back too?

As the complete details with diagnosis is not clear, most likely it may be age related osteoarthritis if it is occurring in thumb only. This can heal with rest for which splint has been opted. but complete healing may be questionable. Xray may be required for further comment. In most of the cases after pain subsides regular physiotherapy of the affected joint may be required. But it is not a serious issue.
