I have had a bad cold and have been sneezing a lot. however when i sneezed today i suddenly felt a pain in my chest and now whenever i breathe or get up from lying down my rib is very painful

I can understand your concern.
Ribs don't crack like that.
The pain should subside by itself in sometime.
If it doesn't, then get it checked out by a MD consultant physician in person for further evaluation and management.
He will be able to help you further.
