Diet in dengue
My sister is diagnosed with dengue today. It's her first day of fever. Could you please advise the diet or food to be followed in this tenure? It's only the first day of fever. Ideally doctor said that dengue diagnosis is done on 3rd day of fever. But since her temp was not reducing even after medication n blood test n urine test, doctor did dengue n malaria test n dengue was found to be positive. Her platelet count is 20lacs. She is very restless n complains of her body pain.. her temp. Rose to 104.5° n now it is 103°. Please advise?

Hello there. i can understand your concern. her platelets cannot be 20 lacs. the normal range is only upto 5.5 lakhs. anyways, as her diet is concerned, there is no special diet she needs to follow apart from avoiding oily and spicy foods. she must drink lots of fluids. and apart from this, she needs to take rest for three days. best regards, Dr. Anil kumar jain.

Hi, diet wise let her take plenty of fluids and monitor her platelet count. No restrictions as far as food is concerned but better to avoid oil and non veg food.

I can understand your concern. Ideally there is no food restrictions due to dengue fever as food and dengue fever have no connections. Advice to take plenty of fluids in the form of clean hot water, coconut water, fruits juices. Ask her to have only home cooked food and avoid oily or junk foods in order to prevent any other secondary infections.
