Concern Regarding Possible Exposure
Hi, I had a blood test done yesterday where blood was drawn from my vein. The nurse had just treated another patient a few seconds earlier and, to my knowledge, did not wash her hands or wear gloves before attending to me. She used a new cotton swab, but it had been placed on a stretcher where used syringes are typically kept before disposal. I’m concerned that the surface of the stretcher may have had traces of blood from earlier procedures, and that the cotton might have absorbed it. This same cotton was then used to press on my puncture site after the blood draw. I'm quite anxious about the possibility of being exposed to HIV or other blood-borne infections if any contaminated blood came into contact with the puncture wound. Could you please advise me on whether this poses any real risk or if I should take any follow-up actions? Thank you.
