The recurring pattern you describe â starting as a small itchy bump, then developing into a painful ulcer/wound that heals â is very characteristic of Herpes Genitalis (HSV-2), a viral infection. Betadine helps prevent secondary bacterial infection on the ulcers but does not treat the underlying viral cause, which is why it keeps recurring. This condition is manageable with antiviral medication (Acyclovir or Valacyclovir) which reduces the severity, duration, and frequency of outbreaks. Please do NOT self-treat with Betadine alone for this â you need a proper diagnosis and antiviral course from a dermatologist or urologist.
Next Steps
Consult a dermatologist or urologist urgently (in-person) for examination and swab test during an active episode. Get tested for other STIs (
HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B) as well. Antiviral therapy (Acyclovir/Valacyclovir) prescribed by a doctor will control outbreaks. Keep the area clean and dry. Consult me on Practo for further guidance.
