Vitamin D Deficiency

2017-12-04 04:06:43
My wife is 5 months pregnant. Last week, she was feeling a little weak. Doctor atcpffice recommended a Vitamin D test. Her test came back with only 18 ng/ml which indicates a lower than normal (30-100 ng/ml). The supplements she is already taking has 1000 IU of Vitamin D3. Should we take an extra VitD supplement to normalise her VitD levels? What dosage would you advise? Past few days have been rainy and overcast. Sunlight exposure is less.

Hello, practo User No, what ever is taking is okay ,  Rest we will can take from diet ir sunlight . And I think you are in Bangalore. So ask her  to take sun bath after 12.30 . As in Bangalore , Wave length of light is very less during morning now a days. So , vit D cannot  absorb ag that time. Around 12.30, she can take sunbath for 10- 15 min. That is sufficient for her. Rest if you want to discuss for vitamin D diet and for other information, you can contact me directly thru the link below

Hi Since the patient is pregnant and I am not aware of all the medical history it is difficult to answer. But for your own formation you should know that sometimes vitamin D tabs are not good enough. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. There is a medicine called D Rise which has 60,000 IU. It is taken once a week for 8 weeks to normalise vitamin D levels. We all take it and it is normal to take. However please confirm with your doctor before taking it. Because the child’s need might increase the need of vitamin D in the body. However kindly check in with your OBGYN before using.
