Vaginal infection keep coming back

I Keep getting the vagina fungal infection again and again after the proper medicine suggested by the doctor I'm consulting. Is it fungal infection or any other infection?? Symptoms are- itching around vagina, white discharge, swelling around vagina. What causes it? What things to do or not to do? What food or things to be avoided for reoccurrence?
