Uterine fibroids

2022-04-05 07:26:46
Hello I'm 48F. Since the last three years, I've been experiencing very heavy periods. They last for 8-9 days generally. I got ultrasound done and it showed "bulky uterus with uterine fibroids with the largest measuring 58*52mm." I'm scared as hell. Is this cancerous? Would i be okay?

1)First of all share your USG report . There are various types of fibroid : if it is submucosal(0,1) : Hysteroscopic myomectomy is the best treatment of choice . 2)Otherwise if it is other types of fibroids : medical therapy should be started first if you dont want to conceive in coming future . It include Combined contraceptive pills which will decrease bleeding but it won't reduce size . For size reduction we can start another medical therapy also . If nothing works then hysterectomy can be done if you don't want to preserve your uterus and your family is complete . 3)Go get your Endometrial biopsy done as your age is above 45 and you belong to high risk category also complaining of ABNORMAL UTERINE BLEEDING so there can be endometrial hyperplasia ( which is trigger for Endometrial cancer so it MUST BE ruled out at this age ) . 2nd thing once you will be started on OCPs : it will itself reduce chance of Endometrial Cancer so it is beneficiary for you .

You should consult a Gynaecologist in your area and get operated. Once a diagnosis of Fibroids Uterus has been made you will have to get the uterus removed. Earlier the better. The more you delay, you will lose blood and at the time of operation you may need blood transfusion.
