Unknown Skin Patch

2026-03-30 07:22:53
Hello Doctor, I have a patch on both shoulder and near left arm pit that is light brown in color. It has been there for some time and has not spread. There is no itching, pain, or irritation. Could you please check if this is something pigmentation or something else, and suggest if any treatment is needed? I have attached a photo for your reference. Thank you.

This appears to be a superficial fungal infection (likely tinea versicolor/pityriasis versicolor) rather than simple pigmentation. The location (shoulder/axilla area), light brown patches, and lack of symptoms are typical for this condition. Next Steps: • Keep the area clean and dry • Maintan personal hygiene. Helpful Tips / Word of Caution: • This is common and not serious • Pigmentation may take time to normalize even after treatment • Avoid oily creams/sweating as fungus thrives in moisture • Complete full treatment course to prevent recurrence You can consult with me via Practo for detailed evaluation and treatment

This condition (Pityriasis Versicolor) is a common fungal infection of the skin caused by a yeast that is normally present on our skin. In some people, this fungus grows more than usual due to • Excess sweating • Hot and humid weather • Oily skin • Weak immunity • Use of oily creams or lotions Because of this, light or dark patches appear on the skin, especially over the chest, back, neck, and arms. It is not harmful and not contagious, so it does not spread from person to person. This condition is treatable. Recurrence is common, especially in summer, so proper skin care and maintenance treatment may be needed.
