Uncontrollable hiccups

I have hiccups that stay around for days. If I laugh too much i hiccup, or if im just talking they will pop back up and its so hard to get rid of them. One time I had them for more than a week. I'm beginning to think something is wrong. It's straining my chest and hurting my esophagus. Looking for some opinions of what I should do.
