If your baby is arching their back frequently, especially during or after feeding, it might be a sign of gastroesophageal reflux (GER), which is common in infants. GER happens when milk and stomach acid come back up into the esophagus, causing discomfort. Babies with GER often arch as a way to cope with this discomfort. If your baby is feeding well, gaining weight, and seems generally happy, this is usually nothing to worry about and tends to improve as their digestive system matures. To help, you can try feeding smaller amounts more frequently, keeping your baby upright for 20-30 minutes after feeds, and ensuring burping during and after feeding. However, if your baby seems in pain, cries excessively, or is not gaining weight, let’s evaluate further to rule out more severe reflux or other causes.
